Summary/Abstract: This article reconstructs the biography of Maria Franciszka Kozłowska, the founder of the Mariavite Order. She was declared 'accursed' by the bishops of the Catholic Church in Poland, as well as by the Holy See. The hierarchy objected to the revolutionary concept of the new congregation and the fact that it was to be led by a woman. Kozłowska’s case has become a subject of interest for writers. Today, her person and work can be placed within the realm of feminist theology.
