Summary/Abstract: The article serves as a prolegomena to further research on violence in sport, with particular emphasis on its positive and often overlooked aspects. The author challenges the dominant legal, academic, and common-sense understanding of violence as an inherently negative and socially harmful phenomenon. A distinction between aggression and violence is proposed, showing that in sport‒during training, competition, and related activities‒violence may assume necessary, rule-governed, and even desirable forms. Special attention is given to regulatory violence, self-directed violence (auto-violence), and psychological violence, which may contribute to athletic success, volitional mobilization, and enhanced motivation. The paper also highlights the ambivalent nature of violence and its social, cultural, and individual determinants. The analysis is situated within the framework of sport sciences and the philosophy of sport, with reference to legal norms and sport regulations.
