Summary/Abstract: The paper orders the four stages of the genesis of the subject’s sense of identity. The text also provides a phenomenological perspective on the relationship between human corporeality and awareness. The fundamental difference between the sense of identity and identity is that identity always belongs to the subject but is stated by someone else whereas the sense of identity is only available to the subject. In the paper, we demonstrate that this understanding of the subject and his or her epistemic possibilities is possible with phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty and Sartre.
