Priorities of Contemporary Ethnology/Anthropology in Serbia

Summary/Abstract: Today, for ethnology/anthropology in Serbia, of special importance are: to intensify ethnographic research of traditional culture, to initialize projects in applied ethnology (revival of villages, preservance, renew and promotion of traditional culture and balance of population density in Serbia), to focus on Serbian ethnicity (understudied in previous projects), to appraise theological context and aspect of reality, to intensify ethno-genesis-like and paleo-ethnological projects, to re-develop organization and coordination within existing ethno-anthropological institutions, to face ideological obstacles and limitations, to overcome provincial syndrome, to pay more attention to harsh and bitter position of Serbs, their language and culture, to internally research ethnological institutions and scientific public opinion. We have to discuss all of the above issues, in order to assess traditional and contemporary cultural reality in Serbia, which should be the main task of ethnology/anthropology in the region.
