Summary/Abstract: The emergence of new and the escalation of existing socio-political conflicts are creating a favourable environment for the intensification of political violence in democratic countries. A similar trend is observed in Bulgaria; therefore, this paper aims to present a framework for studying the main factors contributing to the intensification of political violence in Bulgaria. The paper provides a definition of political violence, presents its main forms (direct, cultural and structural), and analyses the main determinants for the intensification of political violence in Bulgaria, systematized into three groups - individual, societal and state level.
