Summary/Abstract: The report links the internal drivers of democratic erosion to external factors. The responses to the 2008 global financial and economic crisis, which led to inequality, unemployment, and precarious work, undermine trust and strengthen support for radical alternatives. Empirical analysis shows a stable negative correlation between subjective social status and voting for radical parties. Coordinated autocratic networks use financial flows, energy dependencies, disinformation, and the “capture” of elites to accelerate institutional erosion. The report seeks options for redemocratization through organized resistance by citizens, civil society, the media, and the judiciary, as well as through the establishment of a transparent global financial system.
