Summary/Abstract: Science and Technology have revolutionised the material existence of man and are revolutionising his mental existence. Scientists are the autocatalysts of social evolution, acting on and reacted upon by the society so as to produce accelerating change. Science has created the present milieu in which men must live and interact and it is creating new viewpoints as to how men must live and interact. Biology, especially, dealing with organisms—with systems composed of individual units integrated into a community which is an effective whole—has much to say of the forces operating in such communities of individuals, of the freedoms, duties, controls that must be present, and of regular trends in these over the enormous span of organic evolution.
