Summary/Abstract: Cloud computing has emerged as a transformative technology, enabling organizations and individuals to access scalable resources, reduce infrastructure costs, and improve operational efficiency. Despite these advantages, security and privacy remain critical challenges that hinder broader adoption. This article provides an introduction to cloud computing by outlining its essential technical characteristics, including on-demand self-service, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured services. However, along with these features come significant risks related to security and data protection. The primary concerns addressed in this paper include lack of control over stored data, untrusted access mechanisms, illegal or unauthorized data usage, and ambiguities in roles, authorities, and responsibilities between cloud providers and users. Specific threats such as unauthorized access, data breaches, loss or corruption of information, and resource exploitation are discussed in detail. Furthermore, the article presents current solutions and protective mechanisms, including strong encryption techniques, advanced access control systems, security policies, auditing mechanisms, and adherence to international standards. By analyzing both the challenges and mitigation strategies, the study highlights the importance of integrated security approaches that balance efficiency with user privacy. Ultimately, ensuring trust in cloud platforms is fundamental to their sustainable growth and to fostering widespread confidence in adopting cloud technologies worldwide.
