Summary/Abstract: In the context of dynamic digital transformation and continuously rising public expectations, the need for local self-government bodies to adapt to new technological realities is becoming increasingly urgent. In particular, the capabilities of Artificial intelligence (AI) represent a kind of milestone in achieving the much-desired sustainable development. Through the automation of routine processes, advanced analysis of large volumes of data, and the application of predictive models, AI could contribute to better planning, informed decision-making, and proactive communication between institutions and local communities. Beyond the technological aspects, digital transformation also implies a cultural shift in governance – rethinking processes, enhancing administrative capacity, and fostering innovation. In this context, the sustainable development of local self-government is not limited to the introduction of new technologies but requires a systematic approach to change – including the development of digital skills, ensuring cybersecurity, protecting personal data, and guaranteeing equal access to electronic services. This study explores the potential of AI as a catalyst for sustainable governance at the local level and presents good practices and challenges related to its implementation in the context of the digital society.
