Summary/Abstract: The integration of smart devices – from wearables and voice assistants to intelligent home appliances – defines a major trend in the evolving digital economy. This article examines their role as drivers of automation, digitalisation and personalisation, assessing their real value versus marketed functionality. It highlights the economic and social logic behind their mass adoption and the rising significance of user data in shaping new business models. Despite technological progress, smart devices introduce risks of dependency, reduced autonomy and privacy threats. The study concludes with a call for ethically guided innovation aligned with sustainable development in the digital economy.
