Summary/Abstract: The paper represents a theoretical and methodological foray into the main conceptual approaches to performance management. The purpose of the paper is to highlight the connections between performance management and the competitiveness of companies. Thus, the paper begins by illustrating the most relevant conceptual approaches to performance management and continues with the analysis of the stages of evolution of performance management. As a result, the paper is based on a varied, extensive literature that includes the following methods: analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, graphic and tabular analysis. In conclusion, we can note that each company must strengthen its performance management in order to develop new competitive advantages that will support the multilateral development of the company.
