Summary/Abstract: Sacrifice represents a fundamental category of human existence and a central dimension of orthodox theology. Far from being a mere ritual act or a simple renunciation, sacrifice expresses person’s capacity to transcend self-centeredness and to open towards communion with God and others. This study examines the meaning of sacrifice from an anthropological and theological perspective, with particular attention to the vision of Fr. Constantin Galeriu, one of the most important orthodox theologians of the twentieth century. His integrative approach highlights sacrifice as mediator of communion, as principle of creation, as path of continuous renewal and as mean of redemption. The analysis concludes by situating all these dimensions within the horizon of Christ’s sacrifice, understood as the culmination and fulfillment of every human sacrifice and as the foundation of ecclesial life.
