Summary/Abstract: In the context of the Commemorative Year 2025 dedicated to the Centenary of the Romanian Patriarchate, I consider it as our sacred duty to evoke the prominent figures of Romanian Orthodoxy who, through their sacrificial work, made their contribution to elevating the Church of our nation to the status of Patriarchate. Among the hierarchs we must honour, the gifted and charismatic figure of Metropolitan of Moldavia Pimen Georgescu (October 22nd, 1853 – November 12th, 1934) holds a place of distinction—a devoted servant both of the Altar and of the country; a man who, though small in stature, was a great personality of his time. Not being a politician himself, he nevertheless felt with the utmost intensity the emotions that the Romanian people went through during the First World War and the years that followed—culminating in the fulfillment of the national unity (the Union of Alba Iulia in December 1st, 1918) - the Romanian nation’s century-old dream - and not least in the historic step taken by the “mother of the Romanian people”—the Church: the attainment of Patriarchate status.
