Summary/Abstract: In a tense geopolitical context, modern societies' dependence on essential services provided by critical infrastructures is becoming increasingly evident. The energy infrastructure, in particular, is a target for hybrid threats and a focal point in the struggle for influence among states and international organizations. Romania, located on the eastern border of the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance, in a region of geopolitical interest, faces a case at the beginning of 2025 that could jeopardize its energy independence. This case concerns the potential transaction through which the Hungarian company MVM Group would become the majority shareholder of E.ON Romania, one of the main gas and electricity suppliers. As the case is still ongoing, awaiting a response from Romanian authorities during the finalization of the transaction procedures, this article analyzes the situation using scenario construction as a methodological approach, employing ontological representation.
