Summary/Abstract: The Arctic is attracting increasing global interest due to its resources, which, due to global warming, are becoming much more accessible for exploitation. In a world where economic, military and political supremacy are desired or positions that must be maintained at all costs, the Arctic represents a territory that many non-Arctic states would like to own a part of. NATO and EU member states that have Arctic territories are concerned with ensuring the security of the area in the context of the military presence and competition from the Russian Federation and China. The Arctic is facing security challenges that require intense cooperation between Arctic countries. The common denominator in terms of war as a reality on the European continent and an increased military presence in the Arctic is the Russian Federation.
