Summary/Abstract: During the Second World War, Romania fought alongside the Axis against the Soviet Union, but also faced a few Allied air raids. The allied high-ranking generals barely mention Romania in their memoirs, General Eisenhower being the only one to mention the heavy anti-air defenses around the Ploiesti oilfields when talking about Operation Tidal Wave. Having participated in the conflict on the side of the USSR, Marshal G.V. Zhukov often BIBLIOGRAPHY the Romanian military when recounting the events of the Battle of Stalingrad. Here, he describes the Romanian forces' positions and describes them as under-equipped and having low morale. Field Marshal Erich von Manstein, an extensive description of the Romanian army in his memoir. He praises some of the Romanian high-ranking generals and the Romanian soldiers, but he is also critical of many aspects of the Romanian military. General Heinz Guderian also mentions the Romanian army a few times in his memoir, but doesn’t go into detail about their capabilities.
