Summary/Abstract: The presence of the French General Charles de Gaulle in Romania was the occasion of many extraordinary moments in the bilateral relations, which were on the rise at that time. There was the enthusiastic welcome of the Romanian people, sincerely expressed towards the first Western president to visit Bucharest, the record 350-kilometer visit, starting in Oltenia, continuing in Muntenia, without passing by the Pitești Car Plant, which in three months' time would put the first car on the treadmill, and ending in the capital of the R.S.R., the very large number of former graduates of the military schools of Saint-Cyr and Paris, present at all points of the routes through the country, other than those with whom he had arranged to meet the high guest and other very interesting aspects. It is also worth noting that a sporting event of the highest level did not take place at a time when the Romanian authorities had decided to put a stop to any situation that could cause disorder and destabilization during the six days initially set by the two sides
