Summary/Abstract: The topic we will address refers to the connections between the withdrawal of NATO military forces from Afghanistan and the events that followed thereafter, for example the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. Thus, we may answer a research question that has emerged with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, namely: What is the relationship between the withdrawal of NATO troops from Afghanistan and the event that subsequently took place at the global level? Therefore, through a realist approach and relying primarily on the analysis of documents and events, we will attempt to answer the established research question by providing relevant information intended to clarify the issues surrounding this topic. The article will be divided into two sections: the first will analyze the events preceding the withdrawal, and the second will examine the events that followed after 2021, considering that a chronological presentation of NATO’s actions and those of its members on the international stage may generate appropriate answers to our research question.
