Summary/Abstract: The extremely low turnout of Croatian voters in the European Parliament elections in June 2024 illustrates Croats’ lack of involvement in EU matters. Croatian people’s absence of interest in the elections could be attributed to a lack of information about the European Union, how it works, what EU citizens’ options are, or how to engage in EU activities. 69 undergraduate and graduate non-Eglish major students from the University of Slavonski Brod in Croatia participated in a pilot research aiming to determine the relationship between a lack of enthusiasm to actively participate in EU decision-making and their knowledge of the EU. Findings suggest statistically significant positive connections between participants’ positive views towards the EU and how well informed they were about the EU’s governmental, economic, geographical, and cultural features. The findings of this research should also be tested on a larger number of participants from the Western Balkans.
