Summary/Abstract: The transport system of the Republic of Bulgaria is of national importance for the economic and cultural life of the population. But the Republic of Bulgaria is not an isolated island in Eastern Europe, but quite the opposite. The territory of Bulgaria is, on the one hand, at the crossroads between Western Europe and the Middle East, and on the other hand, between Southeastern and Northeastern Europe. In order to be part of the European transport network, it is necessary to have synchronized legislation that facilitates the passage through the individual territories regardless of where a cargo is transported from or to. The development of ecological modes of transport, and more precisely of combined, intermodal and comodal systems, requires harmonization of the legislation of the individual EU member states and that of the EU. This article will provide a brief overview of the European and Bulgarian legislation in the field of combined transport.
