Summary/Abstract: The study explores the motivation levels of students from the University of National and World Economy engaged in tennis and table tennis within mandatory physical education courses. A total of 110 students (80 women and 30 men) participated. The Sport Motivation Scale (Pelletier et al., 1995), adapted for Bulgarian conditions, was applied. The results reveal generally high intrinsic motivation among all participants, with „Achievement“ and „Cognition“ as the most pronounced dimensions. Table tennis players demonstrated higher extrinsic motivation, while tennis players showed lower amotivation levels. Female students exhibited higher intrinsic motivation, whereas male students scored higher on extrinsic motivation. These findings underscore the importance of implementing differentiated motivational strategies in university sports practice, considering both gender and sport-specific characteristics.
