Summary/Abstract: This paper addresses a notable gap in interpretive planning for tourist routes that integrate both cultural and natural heritage, with a focus on the Berkovitsa–Kom area in Northwestern Bulgaria. Through qualitative methods, including expert interviews and content analysis, the study proposes a conceptual model for sustainable tourism development grounded in: (1) the use of interactive technologies (e.g., AR and VR), (2) community engagement, and (3) thematic storytelling. The findings indicate that this integrated approach can enhance tourist engagement by approximately 30%, based on comparisons with similar initiatives. This research contributes to the theoretical discourse on heritage interpretation by presenting a replicable framework tailored for rural destinations. It also underlines the value of co-creation processes between local stakeholders and planners in preserving heritage while promoting innovative tourism experiences.
