Summary/Abstract: Thermal tourism in Bulgaria has deep historical roots, dating back to ancient times when Thracians, Romans, and Byzantines used the mineral springs for healing and relaxation purposes. Today, the country boasts a rich resource of thermal waters, which serve as a foundation for the development of modern spa and balneotherapy centers. This article explores the link between traditional balneological practices and contemporary innovations in the sector. It analyzes the legal framework, sustainable development strategies, and the implementation of new technologies in Bulgaria’s thermal destinations. The study highlights the challenges and opportunities facing Bulgaria as a competitive spa and wellness destination in Europe. Best practices are reviewed, and recommendations are offered to enhance the country’s international visibility through thermal tourism.
