Summary/Abstract: The global hotel industry, a cornerstone of the tourism sector, faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices amid growing environmental concerns and rising consumer demand for eco-conscious travel. Simultaneously, intelligent specialisation—strategic innovation aligned with regional strengths—offers a roadmap for hotels to differentiate themselves. This article explores and demonstrates an integrated model of a system of criteria that outlines the main methodological framework for characterising and adapting to sustainable development in the hospitality industry, as well as the opportunities for implementing strategic innovations and sustainable practices based on available objective data from a specific region or municipality. Adapting and integrating sustainability with smart, targeted innovations can support the hospitality sector in the future.
