Summary/Abstract: New technologies are changing the way individuals live, but they are also impacting the way entire cities function as they strive to implement these technologies to improve the quality of life for their citizens and businesses, but also to improve their own business, governance and transportation to make them a more desirable place to live. A smart city goes beyond the benefits offered by the use of digital technologies by making better use of available resources with less emissions, providing safer urban areas, providing more interactive and responsive city governance and monitoring the needs of vulnerable groups. As the new era and the use of new technologies inevitably face many challenges and new problems, this implies that the topic of smart cities is becoming an attractive area for research in various fields. The aim of this paper is therefore to present a bibliographic review of papers dealing with the topic of smart cities from the field of economics, using the Web of Science Core Collection database. The paper will show the clustering of the field in terms of keywords, authors, countries and journals. The bibliometric analysis will highlight areas that have not yet been sufficiently explored.
