Summary/Abstract: This paper is analyzing the canonical and sacramental procedure of the reception of the Greek-Catholic (Uniate) clergy and faithful in 1948, in Transylvania. It can be proved that the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church was not respecting the canon law and the sacramental discipline, which stated that an un-Orthodox believer must be received in the Orthodox Church after a previous catechization, after denouncing the un-orthodox errors, after confessing the Orthodox faith in a solemn way, assisted by testimonies and a priest with episcopal mandate, and according with a certain practice, even receiving the Holy Chrism. Stating even in our days that the “union” between Orthodox and Greek-Catholics in 1948 was a free one, implies a heavy charge for losing the canonicity of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Patriarchate. The Free Romanian Orthodox Church from Exile never accepted the canonicity of the 1948 events.
