Summary/Abstract: Saxon conversion to Catholicism was not a mass phenomenon in the eighteenth century. The converted Saxon was marginalized and stereotypised by his contemporanies, meanwhile he was deemed as opportunist and betrayor of the Saxon nation. Johann Drauth represents a „perfect” analysis case, which highlights the limits of the oportunistic theory: By applying the cultural anthropological model of analysis and researching more the context than the reasons, this study explains how the contact with a different cultural confession brought about comunication and eventualy conversion and afterwards a typical Catholic behavior.
