Summary/Abstract: This study describes the censorship of the religious press printed between 1945 and 1989 in Romania. The text is based on the documents researched in the collections of the National Archives of Romania, in the background of the Press and Printing Committee. Until the official establishment of the official censorship institution (D.G.P.T.), there was a Press Office within the Ministry of Information. This Press Department of the Ministry of Information was responsible to Major Cebanenco, Head of the Censorship Bureau of the Allied Control Commission in Romania. After the official establishment in 1949 of the censorship institutionin Romania, the General Directorate of Press and Printing, all periodical publications, including religious publications, passed through its filter. The official state census reduced the number of publications published by the cults of 108, as they appeared in 1948, at 16 in1958. The censorship made by D.G.P.T. was complemented by that of the censors from the Ministry, namely the Department of Cults. The Communist censorship strived to diminishby all possible means the spread of religious knowledge to the people.
