Summary/Abstract: Non-verbal communication influences diplomatic and political interactions. This paper focuses on typically European innate or culturally acquired gestures as well as on the manner in which they shape communication on the political arena of Germany, Italy and France in particular. Germans are usually reserved and formal, they respect personal space reflecting discipline and professionalism. Italians, on the other hand are much more expressive in terms of non-verbal cues cherishing emotional engagement and proximity. France represents a mixture of elegance and subtle facial expressiveness. Understanding body language is essential for effective communication within the European Union and diplomatic success often depends on the ability to perceive correctly such cultural differences
