Summary/Abstract: This paper highlights the link between the development of sustainable higher education and subjective change in student needs and expectations. Based on the research findings presented in this paper, while the debate on how universities should offer sustainable development to students continues, students‘ needs are undergoing changes that promote sustainable higher education development. Nowadays, students are changing their perception of themselves, and their development in individual and social contexts, and as a result, they are changing their understanding of university. Material conditions are pushed to the background, as well as the need for student initiatives and events. Students put the ability of universities to accept, understand and provide for their personal and professional development first. More than ever, students critically evaluate the quality of education based on their understanding of how education should meet their individual developmental needs and the actual education they receive.
