Summary/Abstract: The intention of the present text is to compare two emblematic poems by the Bulgarian poets Ivan Tsanev and Boris Hristov, between which there are much more differences than similarities. In fact, the only obvious common element between these poems is the image of the tree – central in Tsanevʼs poem and appearing only in the last stanza of Boris Hristovʼs one. The aim of the article is to reveal the profound difference between the ways in which each of these poems interprets the motif of the relationship between the human and the symbol of the tree, offering a brief overview of some crucial interpretations of the image of the tree in philosophy and literature.
