Summary/Abstract: Technological innovations are increasingly challenging the media to seek solutions to overcome the traditional one-way television model and include the active audience not only as a consumer, but also as a producer. Forms of participatory journalism are increasingly entering news production and generating content. Innovative technologies and artificial intelligence are also included to help journalism, although still mainly behind the scenes. To understand the new communication environment, it is important to clarify where and how they enter the journalistic process and what challenges and opportunities they open up for journalists. The use of new technological capabilities by professional communicators in Bulgaria has been studied, as well as forms of participatory journalism in the Bulgarian media, and in particular, the survey as an opportunity for citizen participation.
