Summary/Abstract: The present paper examines the distribution of nouns and verbs in the expressive language of Bulgarian children with autism and their parents. The goal of the study is to assess whether there is a noun bias in the lexical development of Bulgarian children with autism. Language samples from 10 children with autism and their parents were analyzed. The results show a tendency for using more nouns than verbs in the speech of the children but for using more verbs than nouns in the speech of the parents. The study lays the foundation for the examination of a potential noun bias in the speech of Bulgarian children with autism. The results are discussed in the context of similar studies with children acquiring other languages.
