Summary/Abstract: The report examines the current linguistic situation in the city of Plovdiv based on selected typological criteria such as linguistic diversity, the degree of ethno-linguistic diversity, and relative demographic strength. Ahistorical perspective on these criteria is included to provide a comparative analysis and to determine whether ethnolinguistic diversity in the city is increasing or decreasing. Each criterion is also compared with corresponding data for Bulgaria as a whole and for Sofia. The study uses data published on the website of the National Statistical Institute (http://www.nsi.bg/).
