Summary/Abstract: The article is a result of the study in connection of the execution of the project “The speech of Rechane village, Prizren region (with a particular overview of the morphological system)” of the Department of Bulgarian Dialectology and Linguistic Geography at the Institute for Bulgarian Language “Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin” –Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Its main goal is to present the existing ways of transmitting indirectly obtained information about past events, which the speaker did not witness, in the dialect of Rechane from a synchronic point of view. Although all languages have means of expressing the source of information or of marking the speaker‘s position on the credibility of the statement, these meanings are not grammaticalized in a significant part of them. That is why the presence of the grammatical category ‘evidentiality’ of the verb is one of the distinctive characteristics of the modern Bulgarian language in comparison with the other Indo-European languages, which (except for a small number of languages such as Albanian for example) do not have a grammaticalized evidential system. This is precisely the reason why proving the functionality of this morphological category in the dialect of Rechane from a synchronic point of view constitutes a serious argument for its belonging to the Bulgarian linguistic continuum and categorically justifies the conclusions made about the location of the western border of our Bulgarian linguistic territory, refuting politically biased, with a predominance of one or another ethnic, national or religious tendencies, speculations about the ethnic affiliation of the population. The research is done entirely based on material that is personally collected by the author during the conduct of the candidate student courses of Bulgarian language, Literature, History and Culture for the Bulgarian minority in the Rechane village, Prizren region, in the period between years 2015 – 2023.
