Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the written presence of three Latin terms in the most important Slavic legal compendia translated from Greek at different times and geographical points of Slavia Orthodoxa: the Slavic translation of the Eclogue from the 10th century, the Prochiron from the beginning of the 13th century, and the Matthew Blastares’ Syntagma from the end of the 14th century. They form an integral part of the cultural lexicon as terms used to designate persons exercising judicial, judicial-administrative or custodial functions. The aim is to derive regularities in the legal culture of Bulgarians and South Slavs in the Middle Ages by comparing the way in which they appear in the sources. Thus, the author, without commenting specifically on the controversies surrounding the localization of these translations, sees them as a source of a high level of intellectualization of the Old Bulgarian literary vocabulary and as a proof of the continuity of the legal culture. Such cognitive questions can benefit lawyers, philologists, translators, etc.
