Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on a group of Bulgarian verbs with meaning ’to scold’, which arises as a result of regular semantic development. Cases of semantic parallelism are found in verbs with the original meaning ’to shout’, ’to bark’, ’to injure the integrity of something’ and ’to soil, to make dirty’. The observations made can serve as a basis for etymologizing verbs with the meaning ’to scold’ whose origin is uncertain or not quite clear, and in a more general sense can be seen as a contribution to semantic typology.
