Summary/Abstract: In the present article I propose a structural analysis of Teodor Trayanov’s poem “The New Day” („Новият ден“), aimed predominantly at students of Bulgarian Studies for whom Bulgarian is not their native tongue. The purpose is to demonstrate how the main motif and the phases of its unfurling find an “index” equivalent in the language and text characteristics of the poem. Although different linguistic and literary approaches are used in the analysis, for the purposes of a Literature Studies education they have all been “translated” through the most accessible terminology of descriptive grammar. At the same time, a translation of the poem into German is offered, which could assist in presenting the accents in the original more directly.
