Summary/Abstract: This article examines the translations of „Zdravljica“ (“Cheers”) by France Prešern into Serbian (by Desanka Maksimović), into Macedonian (by Vlada Uroševik' and Gane Todorovski) and into Bulgarian (by Lyudmil Dimitrov). The first part presents the theory for translation of poetry and turning a poem to a song. The main facts around the creation of „Zdravljica“’s original are concisely relayed. In the second part the translations are analysed and commented on from a theoretical viewpoint, as the focus in each particular case is on interpreting the translator’s approach, which (may be) is „translation – recreating the meaning“, „translation – recreating the form“ and „translation – a compromise between reproduction and meaning“.
