Summary/Abstract: This paper addresses the integration of competences for democratic culture in tertiary-level foreign language education. It considers the role of language learning in developing democratic values, attitudes, skills, knowledge and critical understanding as conceptualized in the Council of Europe’s Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture. The article outlines dimensions of curricular integration, including intended learning outcomes, learning content design, pedagogical approaches, and assessment practices. It argues that embedding these competences within foreign language education fosters not only linguistic and intercultural proficiency but also students’ capacity to participate meaningfully in democratic culture.
