Summary/Abstract: The article examines the role of linguistic taboo in teaching Spanish as a foreign language (ELE) at beginner levels. The study combines a theoretical overview with data from a survey conducted among NBU students and offers examples of didactic activities applied at level A1. The results show that learners are interested in mastering taboo vocabulary in order to participate more naturally in real communicative situations. The article presents strategies that promote intercultural awareness, polite speech, and the avoidance of misunderstandings.Some methods of teaching in the Translation (German-Bulgarian) discipline in the specialty “German studies with an elective module of Scandinavian languages” are thematized in the paper. The discipline aims at developing students’ skills to motivate their translation decisions in a specific context by using the conceptual toolkit of the already studied philological disciplines. The object of study are positions of deviating rendition of the original in the published Bulgarian translation of the novel I’m Not Stiller (German title: Stiller) by the Swiss author Max Frisch. An algorithm of three steps in the analysis of the differences between the text in German and the text in Bulgarian is presented and options for their overcoming are pointed out.
