Summary/Abstract: The article examines some metaphors related to the five basic tastes: sweet, salty, sour, bitter and spicy (including bland, or rather, lacking in flavor), which have been chosen as the source domain in a contrastive study of Spanish and Bulgarian. The results obtained in the analysis of the projections of the gustatory area onto different target domains in the contrasted languages could provide some clues in search for the common “prints” – but also “sifted” by cultural traditions – in the paths that metaphorical thinking follows in the two linguistic communities.
