Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the merging of personal experience and prose in Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s novels. The writer, with 21 years of experience as a war correspondent, draws on his background to construct with great realism the images, settings, and conflicts that underpin the plots of his novels. His almost impressionistic descriptions, a result of his direct contact with battlefields, armed confrontations and complex protagonists, portray in detail environments and characters, as well as their gestures, conversations and fears. Furthermore, Pérez-Reverte depicts his scenes with photographic precision, reflecting his familiarity with the art of photography.
