Summary/Abstract: International tourism as a global phenomenon is experiencing significant growth. This, in turn, brings both positive and negative consequences. Measuring tourism performance and implementing monitoring mechanisms support more effective decision-making. In order to adopt different strategies for sustainable tourism and achieve target levels, destinations require precise information. The application of different indicator systems allows for the collection of various data necessary for sustainable management. This study highlights the importance of applying different indicators, presents an indicative classification of the possible indicators and data collection methods, and provides a comparison of four indicator systems for sustainable tourism. Based on this analysis, the conclusion outlines peculiarities for applying these systems in the Bulgarian tourism.
