Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a case study of the narrative strategies adopted by Simeon Radev in one of his most interesting works, “Macedonia and the Bulgarian National Revival”, originally written in French and reprinted in Bulgarian several times. In terms of temporal/evidential features, the text seems to violate the restrictions on the choice of narrative system imposed by the present stylistic norm. We conduct a comparative analysis of the temporal/evidential complexes employed to narrate past events in both French and Bulgarian in order to provide a plausible explanation of this phenomenon.
