Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the translation approaches in the conveyance of proper names from/into Bulgarian and Czech. The purpose is to identify the most specific cases, which could mislead or impede the translator. Taking into account the onymic diversity, the attention is focused on particular types of anthroponyms and toponyms. The starting point for analysis is the distinction between home and foreign proprial units. In a addition, not only the lexical-grammatical features of the considered onymic systems are compared, but also the discursive parameters (formality, expressiveness) are taken into account.
