Summary/Abstract: This paper examines two stories by Gencho Stoev, in which the traditional course of the national ideology of the 19th century is reversed. The latter’s pathetic repertoire (which includes the bipolar opposition of ethnic, moral, social and emotional categories) is overcome through authentic historiography. During the April Uprising, Bulgarians (more precisely, Pomaks) confronted other Bulgarians and committed indescribable atrocities.
