Summary/Abstract: The article comments on the genesis and functions of thinking through literature in Bulgaria. By doing so, it focuses on the problems of the teaching Bulgarian literature to foreigners who live and study abroad. They are unfamiliar the Bulgarian educational and national historical contexts. Thus, the Bulgarian educational system’s usual approaches for teaching Bulgarian literature, which are based on literary centrism, are unproductive for them.
