Summary/Abstract: This article capitalises on the Italian students experience with studying Bulgarian at the University of Naples “L’Orientale”. It places a special emphasis on an approach focusing on the syntactic features of the Bulgarian language: sentence structure, types of sentences, word order. This knowledge and the associated skills in constructing grammatically correct expressions give language learners the freedom and confidence to express themselves using increasingly complex phrases and verbalizing their communicative intent in ever greater detail. Studying the syntactic features of a foreign language leads masterying morphological, morphosyntactic and lexical phenomena in the context of specific speech acts.
