Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the role of mnemonic techniques and visual art in teaching Bulgarian as a foreign language. I present mnemonic techniques that can facilitate the three fundamental stages of memory: encoding, storage, and retrieval of, in our case, new lexical and grammatical information. These techniques are based on associations and correlations between familiar objects from Van Gogh's painting Bedroom in Arles and grammar rules in Bulgarian. Van Gogh's painting is seen as a visual illustration of the ancient Greek mnemonic model, known as Memory Palace, used to enhance both the coding and recovery of new information.
